Letter from Ryan

Yesterday when I went to my PO Box to check my mail to my surprise I discovered a letter from Ryan!!! So exciting since I wasn't expecting to hear from him until he came off his course in June. So....for those of you who are interested Ryan is having a great time on his course. They are carrying 70 pound packs and this is without any of the glacier gear which they expected to load up in the next couple of days. He said it has been raining or snowing every day and they've been doing alot of cold river crossings. So it sounds pretty physically challenging to me but he sounds good and says that everyone has a great attitude about the course which goes a long way. The last little note on the letter said they had just seen a wolverine and had seen grizzlies and moose also. I can't wait to hear more!

Future project

Lace Leaf Pullover

Because I don't have the camera....I'm posting this sweater from the latest issue of Interweave Knits. I love love love this soooo much. I want to make it right now. Though in order to follow the pattern I would need to buy 70 dollars worth of yarn. The author says this yarn is a bargain. I'm not sure I agree. I made the mistake of showing two friends this pattern and now they want me to make them each one as well. Maybe I can finance my sweater through the other two. So I'll knit you each a sweater if you each buy me an extra sweater worth of yarn. Hmmmm. Then I'll make one for me and one for Kelley.

Its art of course

Felt Art

One day before Ryan left for Alaska he came home to me all excited about this project. Ryan couldn't quite understand what this project was that I was all excited about which is pretty much the question I've received about all my felting projects. They don't serve a purpose, they are pretty. They are art of course. They don't have to have a function.

Weekend project

Warping the Loom

This the how my weekend project is shaping up so far. I'm spinning furiously to make sure I have enought yarn to weave with once I get the loom all set up. As you can tell, it's a fairly involved and complicated process. Shown here is the chained warp all sleyed through the reed. Now I have to thread the heddles and tie on to the loom. Weaving is exciting because there are so many terms to learn...actually I just follow the pictures in my book. I don't read the instructions. Or as I have mentioned before I read them and don't believe them. I think there is a difference between reading and not following and reading and not believing.

Bye Bye Ry

It's been a difficult couple of weeks getting back into the swing of work after vacation. This is always a tough time of year for me anyway as it seems that most of the people I am close to work in the field during the summer. Last week I said goodbye to Chris for the summer as he heads off to bike from Washington to San Francisco and then work in Yosemite for the season. Today I had to say goodbye to Ryan as he headed off to Alaska for a little over a month. He also took the camera which means no pictures for awhile. Sad day. I do have a couple of photos on disk of some project which I snapped off last night before Ryan packed the camera away. I'm envisioning a lonely summer though I know there are still alot of projects and people around.

So I'll post some pictures soon of some felting and weaving projects I just started and then that will be it for pictures for a month! I should have some San Diego pictures in June from Wendy's camera hopefully.

I'm back!!

Finished Yarn

Here's some yarn I finished while on vacation. I also made some serious progress on my shawl while in the car. I feel weird posting pictures of the same project over and over with a couple more inches completed so I'm not going to do it. I'll post the shawl when it is done. Pictures from our "vacation" are here. Can't quite figure out what I'm going to do with this yarn. Plans are for something on the loom. A rug maybe?
