Furry Happy Monsters

There must be REM in the air because after reading Susan's post on REM I saw them on Sesame Street this morning. What a treat!

Now I will give a brief (though obviously unnecessary) explanation for why I was watching Sesame Street this morning while I ate my oatmeal. Where to start...well for those of you who are closest to me you know I'm going through a bit of a mental slump, (worrying there is a rapist/mugger on every corner, the environment is going to hell, a major pandemic is inevitable, etc.) so I've temporarily banned myself from watching the news or any show that has any kind of negative message regarding the environment, world health, crime....so that I don't start to think this life is not worth living. Anyway we also only get two television stations with the antenna in our apartment, CBS and PBS. So when I turn on the TV in the morning to keep me company I have to choose between PBS Kids and whatever cheesy morning taboidesque news show is on CBS. Obvious choice givem my above mentioned affliction. So this morning how happy was I to see the beautiful Michael Stipe dancing and singing with a room full of muppet monsters and one muppet lady with long red hair who sang the part of Kate Pierson, hilarious.

Side note: With Elizabeth's recent engagement announcement I will accept Michael as mine from here on out.

After 9/11, I didn't watch TV for 6 months.
You're making the right choice.
I'm a polyandrist so i'll still have room for Michael in my life.
He can even have a boyfriend if he wants. We'll always have the Bay Pool high dive.
You eat oatmeal now? I remember a certain situation at the Westlake Bob Evans where you were pratically in tears over finishing your oatmeal.
Sorry for such a long comment...

I'm so happy you can still enjoy Sesame Street. I watched for so many years with you and Kelley, then Emiley, and then daycare kids. It's always been my favorite kids show. I still smile just thinking about it.
Love, Mom
